A little history about our favorite station. Prior to 1950 STATION 4 was located at two areas in West Perrine ,Hibiscus and Homestead Avenue and at Cleveland Av. at Hibiscus Street. This Department started out as a FIRE PATROL under Department of Agriculture. In 1950 STATION 4 moved to Harry Brown's house at 17779 SW. 97 Av. This became the relay STATION of alarms for STATIONS 5 and 6 . If MIAMI Fire Alarm Office needed to call either one of those STATIONS, it would have been long distance. In order to save money, they called Harry Brown's home and he relayed the call to either STATIONS 5 or 6. Harry Brown, an insurance man, was helping to put out a fire, when the lone fireman showed up on ENGINE 4, less than fit for duty. The fire chief also showed up at the scene and asked Harry if he had a place to park a truck and if he wanted a job. Harry accepted and became a FIREFIGHTER. Today, Harry's son, Chief Tom Brown, stands as BATTALION 9 on C shift, quartered at STATION 4. In 1958, ceased to be called FIRE PATROL under the DEPARTMENT of AGRICULTURE and later was initiated as a DIVISION of the DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT. In October of 1959 STATION 4 was relocated from the home of Harry Brown to 9866 Fern St. in Perrine on a lease basis with the SOUTH DISTRICT POLICE HEADQUARTERS. Today that location is a HARLEY-DAVIDSON store. March 4, 1977 STATION 4 moved form Fern street to its present facility at 9201 SW. 152 ST. (Coral Reef Dr.).
